At GAP Talent, we are committed to giving back to the communities we serve. This October, we are honoured to support Tent City as our Charity of the Month. Tent City, located on the East Coast of South Africa, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential shelter, bedding, and nourishment to over 120 homeless adults and children. Through our #GAPGivesBack initiative, we aim to highlight and support the remarkable work Tent City is doing to restore hope and dignity to those in need.

The Growing Challenge of Homelessness in South Africa

Homelessness is a growing crisis in South Africa. Recent estimates suggest that over 200,000 people are currently homeless across the country, and this number continues to rise. High unemployment rates, economic uncertainties, and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic have left many families just one paycheck away from being on the streets. The reality is that more and more individuals are finding themselves facing financial hardship, resulting in homelessness becoming an unfortunate outcome for many.

Statistics show that South Africa’s unemployment rate remains above 32%, one of the highest in the world, and with such a challenging economic landscape, countless families struggle to make ends meet; many having fallen through the cracks into homelessness. For those who experience this reality, organisations like Tent City offer a critical lifeline.
